“Paint in color but think in value.”
Don Andrews
Value, the degree of lightness and darkness, when fused with a strong light source creates value gradation, shape definition, and cast shadows. Adding the fascinating reflected light values of an object to this mixture is exciting! Sometimes the reflected light bounces off neighboring objects creating areas of higher values or lightness in an otherwise dark shaded zone. Thinking in values produces convincing art.
